Tony Woodcock, The President of the New England Conservatory of Music, has a nice commentary at Huffington Post on the tie between music and movies and television.
The basic take isn’t a revelation: television, movies and other forms of media are far more powerful when they are accompanied by effective music. Writes Woodcock:
Just imagine the shark in Jaws, without its dum-dum-dum-dum theme, or any of the Star Wars episodes without those tunes which introduce us to the characters and their adventures.
It is, of course, true. The piece is well written. It also has links to some great music, including the classic opening to The Sopranos.
