It seems that Scott McKenzie, who passed away Saturday at age 73, was best known for San Francisco (Be Sure to Wear Flowers In Your Hair). He was more than that, however. McKenzie, according to Rolling Stone, could have had a spot in the Mamas and the Papas because of his friendship with John Phillips. Indeed, Phillips wrote McKenzie’s signature song. McKenzie, in turn, wrote The Beach Boys’ hit Kokomo.
