Podcast: A Chat with Matt Panayides

Earlier this week, I posted new music from progressive jazz guitarist Matt Panayides. I had a chance to speak with him earlier today. The podcast is above.

Clearly, it’s lacking stylistically: There is no introductory or end theme music and the audio is okay but not great. The song at the end–“Seoul Soul”–is sort of tacked on.

I posted the podcast quickly because Matt is running a Kickstarter campaign that is in its last days and it seemed kind of silly to wait until next week — when it would be over —  to post the conversation.

The stories of the great bands and musicians are fascinating. Musicians as a group are brilliant, but often troubled. The combination of creativity and drama makes for great reading.

Duke Ellington brought class, sophistication and style to jazz which, until that point, was proudly unpolished and raucous. His story is profound. The author, Terry Teachout, also wrote "Pops," the acclaimed bio of Louis Armstrong. Click here or on the image.
