Lake Street Dive was started in 2004 by students from the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston. Original band members, according to Wikipedia, were Rachael Price (lead vocals), Mike “McDuck” Olson (trumpet, guitar), Bridget Kearney (upright bass), and Mike Calabrese (drums). Akie Bermiss (keyboards) joined the band on tour in 2017 and is on their 2018 album.
Lake Street Dive was named after a street in Minneapolis – Olson’s home town – which featured sleazy bars.
The band covers several genres – southern rock, indie pop, blue-eyed soul and folk rock, according to the entry. No disrespect to anyone else in the band –which seems quite good — its most interesting feature is Price’s vocals. She has a unique sound. Give it a listen. The no frills video is a nice change.
The Daily Music Break previously covered Lake Street Dive several years ago.
