Rickie Lee Jones takes some getting used to, but she is tremendous and unique. Her first album offered her most accessible songs and biggest hit, “Chuck E’s in Love.” Not all her songs are so bouncy.
Above is a 1989 appearance on “The Arsenio Hall Show.” Her performance of “Flying Cowboys,” the title track from of the album it is on, is followed by an interview with Hall. I do a lot of interviews for work, and I marvel at Hall. Interviewing Jones before a live audience must have been terrifying. He’s great.
The album was produced by Steely Dan’s Walter Becker. Here is more on Jones’ interesting career.
